Why we need prioritisation

Opportunity cost

from Lombardo, C. Todd,McCarthy, Bruce,Ryan, Evan,Connors, Michael. Product Roadmaps Relaunched)

  1. Opportunity cost is when you never get the chance to do something important because you chose to work on something else instead.
    1. … you can never get everything done you would like or even might think is minimally required. … Always assume you may have to stop work at any time.
  2. Escape the creep of the additional feature carrying costs which are:
    1. Retest (and fix if necessary) the feature with each new release and in each supported environment
    2. Document the feature
    3. Produce training material for the feature
    4. Handle support requests from customers (and train the support team to handle them)
    5. Figure out how to incorporate the feature into your pricing
    6. Figure out how to demo and sell the feature (and train the sales team)
